Thank you to all who made the 13th Annual Tybee Island Sea Kayak Races possible. Thank you to the participants, to the volunteers and to the sponsors. It was a success because of you. We raised over $10,000 for the Tybee Island Marine Science Center! And had fun in the process. Communities together can do really good things. I cannot say thank you enough.
The race results and photos will be posted soon - sorry for the delay.

The buzz about race day has gotten louder - lots of phone calls including folks interested in the casual paddler category and good pre-registration numbers. Of course, we want LOTS of racers so if you didn't pre-register, you can still register Saturday morning between 8 and 8:45 a.m.
And sponsorships have continued to come in even though we are past the deadline for getting on the t-shirt. We so appreciate the support for the Tybee Island Marine Science Center.
Big thanks to the Savannah Bar Pilots Association for their gold sponsorship that came in today!!!!
We also thank all you volunteers for your willingness to help. Those of you helping with registration or a related task, please be at A-J's by 7 a.m.

Sponsor deadline extended

Hi Everyone,
Because we've had several requests, we've extended the sponsor deadline to Monday 5/23. Please ask others you know to sponsor - ask you hair dresser, your dentist, your favorite retail store, your neighbor. The money goes to such a good cause - the Tybee Island Marine Science Center.
More and more racers and casual paddlers signing up. Keep it coming.
And we can use a few more volunteers also.

Drawing for the kayak and paddle

The drawing for the kayak and paddle donated by Half-Moon Outfitters got a great boost at the Turtle Trot a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to Judy Ouzts for selling almost $300 worth of tickets for the drawing. Below is a photo of the kayak, a Perception Impulse 10 set up at the Turtle Trot. You can buy 1 ticket for $5, 3 for $10 or 5 tickets for $15. Drawing tickets are available at Papa's Barbeque and Seafood, where the boat is now displayed, at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center or at Half-Moon Outfitters.
Get in on the chance to win a recreational kayak and paddle. The drawing will take place during the Awards Ceremony following the races on June 4. You do not need to be present to win.

Kayak Race in Charleston April 10

Go to www.charlestonpatriotchallenge.org to check out another kayak race for a good cause. The Patriot Challenge will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Rick Carter has been working hard to organize this event. There's a 3 mile and a 6 mile course. Check out the web site for details. Then get to Charleston and take up the challenge. Then, of course, we want to see you June 4 for the Tybee races. Happy Paddling.

ALSO NEW THIS YEAR: CASUAL PADDLERS IN THE RIVER RACE!!! It's like walkers in a running race. Instead of the 6 1/2 miles of the full River Race, Casual Paddlers paddle 2 miles, supporting the Tybee Island Marine Science Center by casually paddling instead of racing. Use your own boat or rent one of the ones provided by sponsors for an extra $20. Now you can participate even if you don't want to race.

Of course, we continue the fun of the River Race (6 1/2 miles on the Back River) and the Little Tybee Challenge (approximately 8 miles circumnavigating part of Little Tybee Island which includes tidal river, narrow creek, surf zone and ocean paddling). Please see the registration form for complete details.

SOMETHING ELSE NEW THIS YEAR: Half-Moon Outfitters has donated a Perception Impulse 10.0 and paddle for a drawing. You get a ticket by registering for the race, race winners get extra tickets, or you can purchase tickets in $5, $10, or $20 lots.

Would you like to sponsor this year's event? All proceeds go to the Tybee Marine Science Center. There are three levels of sponsorships:

The Bronze level is $100 and includes your name on the t-shirt and your name and logo on the web site with a link to your web site.
The Silver level is $250 and includes bronze level benefits plus a t-shirt.

June 4th is RACE DAY

We are all getting super excited about our upcoming 13th Annual Tybee Island Sea Kayak Races on June 4th, 2011!
It is a benefit for the Tybee Island Marine Science Center: a non-profit marine science education facility offering hands-on programs for school and scout groups as well as for the general public. The Tybee Turtle Project, which monitors loggerhead sea turtle nesting and hatching activities on Tybee, is managed by the Marine Science Center.

We hope you will be able to participate! Everything is still a bit in the planning stages and as soon as new information is available we will update our blog. Be sure to follow us on Facebook also!
